The first stage of any sculpture is the observation and drawing. The
client has supplied photographs and information from the Gloucestershire
Cow society.
Brian is observing and drawing, these drawings are sent by e mail to
the client for consideration.
Deciding exactly what you want is a very important stage of a
commission.

| The basic shape is blocked out in clay. This is the most
crucial part of the process. The form must be 'right 'from the very
beginning. The proportions will make or break a sculpture This
is a sign of the true experience and skill of the sculptor. All the
essential requirements of a Gloucester cow are there from the beginning. |

The Gloucester cow now with the basic proportions is placed upon a
revolving turntable. The clay props around it are essential. The clay
has to remain soft and able to be modelled but the legs are unable to
take the weight. Hence pieces of clay support the still wet sculpture. |
|
The basic shape is developed. The detail is gradually
added. The photograph of the cow has been used throughout the
construction. The proportions are carefully used to create a Gloucester
cow sculpture. |
